    It is less than 25 miles from Manhattan and enjoys both Mid-Town Direct and Downtown NYC train service. There are more than 15,000 people living in the four square mile community. It has been known since the late 1800’s as the "Rose City" for the many blossoms that were grown here for markets around the world.

    Arts

    Madison, NJ residents reap the benefits from the work of The Madison Arts and Culture Alliance (MACA). MACA is a coalition of arts organizations, cultural institutions, and Madison residents that work towards the artistic and cultural development of the city.

    Madison, NJ is the home to the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, the Playwright's Theater of New Jersey, the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts, and the Adult School of Chatham, Madison, and Florham Park. You can visit MadisonArtsNJ.com for more information.

    Recreation

    The Madison Department of Recreation offers events, activities, and athletics for children and adults alike. They even offer summer programs which include drama, music theatre, and nature.

    The facilities around the city include little league baseball and softball fields, nature trails, picnic areas and playgrounds.

    Dodge Field has a baseball and football field and two basketball courts which are lighted for lit to foster night/evening safety.

    Memorial Park has facilities which are used for soccer, football, and lacrosse practices throughout the seasons. Memorial Park also has an outdoor ice skating in the winter.

    The Madison, NJ Department of Recreation also utilizes several school facilities, including six tennis courts at Madison High School and the Green Village Road School field all of which have lights.

    Education

    There is a strong public school system, which maintains relatively small class sizes and a broad curriculum. There are three elementary schools, one junior high school, and one high school. The high school is also attended by students from nearby Harding Township. In addition, St. Vincent Martyr Church operates a parochial elementary school in Madison.

    Madison, NJ is the home of Drew University and has the Fairleigh Dickinson University Madison-Florham Park Campus and the College of St. Elizabeth is close by.

    Transportation

    The Madison, NJ Train Station can be found on Kings Road, between Green Street and Prospect Street. Service is available on the Morristown Line going to Hoboken and Penn Station in Manhattan, using the Kearny Connection.

    Parking is available to Madison residents only on the lots surrounding the train station.

    Local Shopping

    Madison's Main Street, also known as Route 124, is lined with small shops and restaurants. Many of the shops in Madison have been around for decades. You will find anything from a chic vintage thrift store, to McCool's Ice Cream Parlor, a pharmacy, and several delicious restaurants like the Garlic Rose Bistro and Ill Mondo Vecchio. Madison, NJ is also the home to a Whole Foods and a Starbucks conveniently located along the Main Street stretch.

    Worship

    Madison, NJ has several worship institutions within town. Most of these are also members of The Interfaith Council of Madison which meets to discuss issues that affect the congregations. They also sponsor several annual events such as the Martin Luther King, Jr., Celebration, Pulpit Exchange and Thanksgiving Community Service.
