Inspect It: The most important thing you’ll do before purchasing any home is having a qualified inspector take a thorough look at your potential home. This is where costly repairs such as termites, leaky roofs and broken water heaters can show up unexpectedly. You’ll feel much better making an offer on a home after it has passed a professional inspection.

First Time Home Buyer Tip #4

    October 10th, 2009

Check the Neighborhood: Just because you like the particular street that a home is on, doesn’t mean that the home is in the best location for you. Take a drive within a one to two mile radius around the home and locate the places that you will be frequenting such as grocery stores, gas stations and shopping malls. If you want to be in close proximity to conveniences such as these, it’s best to know exactly where they are.

First Time Home Buyer Tip #3

    October 9th, 2009

Take the Tour: Once you have set your parameters, your agent should have located a variety of homes that you can tour. The best thing to do is to take your digital camera with you and take plenty of photos. When viewing multiple homes it can be easy to forget which home had which features and floor plan. Later you can go back to your photos to remind yourself which homes were your favorites.

First Time Home Buyer Tip #2

    October 8th, 2009

Set Your Search Parameters: If you don’t know exactly what you want, you’ll wind up wasting your time and your agents time looking at houses that are not right for you. Make a list of everything that you require in a new home – number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms, price range, neighborhood, floor plan, etc. Knowing exactly what you want can help your agent locate the best home for your needs.
